Expedition Treriksrøysa

Down the broad valleys
Down the broad valleys

The goal on this tour is Treriksrøysa between Norway, Finland, and Sweden. The meeting point of these three borders is just north of 69 degrees latitude. After the first night at Innset, we begin with a thorough briefing into the art of dog sledding, a check of the equipment and the preparation of the tour.

The expedition starts on the third day along Lake Altevatn. Beyond the next lake, Leinavatn, one reaches Swedish territory. The tour then goes northwards through open mountain areas, past lakes and tiny Sàmi settlements, to where the three borders intersect.

At this point, the expedition comes down to the timberline and takes the way back to Innset on Norwegian side through Dividalen National Park.

On our way to Treriksrøysa we usually ride along tracks from snow scooters, which bind the small Sàmi settlements together. The way back, however, will go through untouched snow.

If there is much snow, this tour will require something of the participants. Most nights will be spent in cabins along the route, but, depending on the weather, there might be two nights spent in tents.

No previous training in dog sledding is necessary for this roughly 350 kilometre long expedition. After a thorough briefing in dog sledding here on the Huskyfarm, the participants will handle their own sled and dog team. Usually, much sooner than expected all participants feel secure about sledding and handling of the dogs. The tour guide will assist you along the way.
